Alan Tang in Requital

In 1992 Alan Tang played the role of a wise, older high-raking triad boss or Big Brother in the gangster drama, Requital. Tang's role was significant to the story even though small. It was obviously based on his previous roles in many movies where he played a triad figure. Tang did some action as well as drama and seemed a perfect match for the part.

Cheating in Panorama
Cheating Technique

Alan Tang had a supporting role in the 1972 movie Cheating Panorama which is also called Cheating Technique. The overall story is about a man who is writing a book on why people use cheating techniques. He gives several examples, one of which involves how you would treat your loved one if they were in the hospital with a serious illness like cancer. Would you tell them the truth or not?

Alan Tang and Jenny Hu as Tang's wife play out two different versions of this. In the first version, Hu lies to Tang and tells him he does not have cancer. Tang jumps out of his hospital bed and celebrates. In the second version, Hu tells Tang the truth that he has cancer and has only three months to live. At first they console each other. Then because he is dying Tang decides to tell his wife that she is not his wife but his mistress since he has another woman. Jenny Hu is then very angry with Tang and she tells him that their two sons are not his and that she has another man. So there! They are very angry with each other and end up in a big fight. Special thanks to Alan Tang fan Irene for the plot details as this film came without English subtitles.

BUNNY GIRL

Bunny Girl was the first of three movies Alan Tang made in 1967 and he had a supporting role in it. This is actually the second movie on Alan Tang's filmography and he was billed as making a guest appearance. Tang had no real close-ups in the movie but created quite a sensation when he appeared doing a dance number in shorts using a whip (see below). Although Tang's part in this black and white film was brief, he did get to rescue the heroine played by Seet Ka Yin and do some brief fighting with the male lead played by Loi Kei. Tang's final dance number wearing a white outfit was to foreshadow many similar appearances in future in film.

Tang's role had little to do with the story line of this movie which is a drama. In it the leading actor, Loi Kei, falls for a lower class girl, Seet Ka Yin and his family disapproves. They try to make ends meet but he gets sick and she works at a Playboy Club to make money. Alan Tang dances at this club with his sister. When Loi Kei discovers Seet Ka Yin at the club he is furious and tries to drag her out. Tang comes to her rescue. In the end the two lovers are reunited with Tang's help. Glamorous Christmas Night

Glamorous Christmas Night was the second of three movies Alan Tang made in 1967 and he had a substantial supporting role in it. Tang was still in the process of being introduced to the public and had few close-ups. The female lead in Glamorous Christmas Night was the famous 60's actress, Chan Poh Chee also known as the "Princess Idol" to her fans. Loy Kei was the male lead. Tang danced and played the hero in this movie which like Bunny Girl was to foreshadow his future in films.

Tang's role had little to do with the story line of this movie which is a musical drama. The story itself revolVed around Chee being spotted by a film company while filming a musical show with Tang about White Christmas. Later Chee is forced by her wicked step-mother to enter into the entertainment circle where she is betrayed by her and eventually raped by the son of a film director. Chee becomes insane and loses her memory. Later with the help of her boyfriend, Loy Kei and Tang she regains her memory. This happens when they re-enact the scene from White Christmas. Special thanks to Alan Tang fan Irene for her help in finding the movie and providing plot details.
