The Story

The movie takes place in Jakarta where Alan Tang spots an attractive girl at the racetrack and succeeds in picking her up. They rent a hotel room and become lovers. The girl, who is rich, takes Tang home to meet her parents, who are not impressed with him. Tang is only a car saleman and their daughter is a university graduate. The parents try to stop the romance by introducing their daughter to the son of another rich man who is helping them with their business. This doesn't work.

Tang, in an attempt to make money, steals the funds he is supposed to deposit in the bank for the auto agency. He gambles it all on the horses and loses it. He is arrested for this and panics while in custody. As he is being transported to jail, a car breakdown gives him a chance to escape. In so doing, he grabs a gun and accidentially shoots one of the officers. Tang escapes, calls his girlfriend, and they take off together.

WARNING CONCLUSION: Tang and his girl enjoy a brief but happy time together. They stay in a fancy hotel by the ocean, make love, dance, drink, eat and share a wonderful time. Finally, Tang's lifelong friend played by Tang Wei, who is a police officer, finds them. He has been given three days by the Chief Inspector to capture Tang. Tang's friend tries hard to get him to surrender and sends him a note and bottle of champagne. In the final scene, while Tang and his girl friend are at a table by the ocean, his friend and the police discover and surround them. As his girlfriend, his friend, and the police watch Tang shoots himself in the head. His girl then shoots herself as part of a pact the two made not to give themselves up.
